I need advice on how to be able to leave my dog at home so he doesnt bark and cry and wreck things?

Hi I live in a duplex a side by side one I can not leave our dog at home without him barking and crying and wrecking things. We have tried to kennel him up but he still barks and cries. We cant even go to the bathroom without him crying when the door shuts. I just cant handle it anymore we cant take him every where we go!!! If we had our own place it would be different but i don't want to make the neighbors upset.
